An astonishing £1700 was raised at the most recent Coventry British National Party meeting, reports our West Midlands correspondent.
Veteran Nationalist, Richard Edmonds, was the main speaker for Coventry and South Warwickshire’s first meeting of 2010, which saw the usual venue completely packed out.
Mr Edmonds warned of the changes which have affected him and many others living in Hounslow and other parts of London. “In Hounslow at the park where I used to play as a child, there is now a mosque,” said Mr Edmonds.
He proceeded to give some worrying crime statistics during which he revealed a new method of mugging being used by gangs of black teenagers, known as steaming, where a group of around 40 muggers will mass mug in a busy area like an ice rink, all at the same time. Other worrying revelations included the fact that every day there is at least one murder in central London.
All was not bad news, however. Mr Edmonds assured the crowd that in the many years he had been involved in British nationalism, there has never been a better chance for a nationalist party to make such serious headway in a general election.
Coventry Organiser Tom Gower informed the meeting about the progress made by Coventry BNP over the past few months. The local opposition are now seeing the BNP as a real threat, he said.
“One symbol of what is happening to this country is the recent conversion of an old Coventry pub, The Binley Oak, into a Muslim girls’ school,” Mr Gower said.
“It is sickening that Coventry City Council has allowed the conversion of such a historic pub to go ahead. This building dates from 1855 and was where Coventry City football club was founded 127 years ago.
“Now it is one of seven Muslim schools in the area,” Mr Gower said. “This is yet another attempt by the mentally unbalanced council to wipe away Coventry’s history. Much of our history and culture were wiped away during the Blitz and now the council are replacing what’s left with Islamic culture.”
After a question and answer session in which both Mr Edmonds and Mr Gower went into detail on the new BNP constitution, Mr Gower went on to announce that Coventry and South Warwickshire will field four candidates in the forthcoming general election.
Furthermore, the party intends to contest every seat in Coventry. Each parliamentary candidate will have A4 glossy leaflets delivered to every house. “We will contest Coventry North East, Coventry North West, South Warwickshire and Rugby and we will campaign until the enemy hurts,” he said.
After the collection raised £1700, Mr Gower said he was happy to “say that after this meeting, we can now afford to put up a fourth candidate in the coming election. Coventry already has a healthy war chest and is renowned across the region for the careful accountancy and successful Voice of Freedom sales coordinated by our fund holder Mark Badrick.
“Coventry BNP is putting up a full slate of candidates and I am very confident that we will take away a lot of votes from those in control of the council. I, for one, am particularly excited at the prospect of possibly unseating Defence Minister Bob Ainsworth,” he said.
“Although we are denied a voice by the Labour biased Coventry Telegraph, I have found other methods to get our voice around the city, which will certainly surprise our opponents.”
